Excavation Standards
Jobsite Safety: shoring, safety devices,
Shoring or trench safety is required with any excavation that is 4’ or deeper.
Engineered shoring must be used at all times: i.e. speed shoring with fin form, trench box
Tabulated Data must be present on all job sites
Notes: Grounds for termination if trench safety protocol is not followed
All soils will be considered Type C soil – no exceptions
All holes will be covered with fin board when not active on job site
I.e. Lunches, breaks, running for parts, end of day
All jobsites will be secured when not active job sites. Must be secured with caution tape to warn others of potential hazards
Hard Hats must be warn at all times on Job site whether active or secured
Safety glasses must be worn at all times on active job sites.
Approved traffic control Plans must be present on all job sites
Approved traffic control barricades must be on job site and in use during active jobsites and non-active.
Job site safety meeting must be done: At beginning of every job, when job site conditions change or every 3rd day of the project.
Scope
Timelines and expectations must be followed. If unable to reach expected timeline then proper communication with field manager or project manager is required.

Quality and Professionalism
Prior to starting excavation project, we need to walk through jobsite with owner or sales men and discuss potential concerns.
Examples of potential concerns:
Rose garden, trees that will need to be hemmed or removed, fences that will need to be taken down, digging proximity to house, grass displacement, irrigation, rockeries etc.
There should not be any surprises for the owner once work has begun.
Best efforts should be made to preserve any landscaping
Use shovels to cut grass up.
Lay fin Bored down when driving equipment over yard.
Don’t park equipment that could leak fluid on customer’s property. Use public parking
Professional demeanor should be taken at all times.
Company uniform must be worn at all times
Uniform must be in clean presentable condition
Smoking is not prohibited on any jobsite.
Smoking can be done on breaks at least 150 yards away from the jobsite.
Swearing is not prohibited on any jobsite.
Long hair and long beards or not permitted
Equipment and Jobsite
Customers are paying a lot of money for these projects. Equipment, truck and trailer need to be cleaned every day.
Job Sites need to be cleaned up every day.
Need to make sure all saw cut sprays are cleaned up, all mud on houses and muddy footprints on concrete walkways are cleaned.
Make sure all soil piles are covered up with plastic and secured
Jobsite Close Out
All permits and inspection must be done and completed to close out the excavation project.
This includes all local and ROW permits as well as any engineered backfills. Includes final
Video inspection of sewer line on file.
Backfill must be done in 18” lifts with either compaction attachment for excavator or jumping jack.
Grass seed or saved grass must be replaced.
Restoration to match as best as possible to the original state. I.E. fences rebuilt, trees replanted, rockeries replaced.
Once completed, Employee must walk through the job site with the owner and perform a project punch list. Project punch list must be performed and signed by the customer.
If at all possible, ask for final payment when the customer signs off on the project.
Notes: This can be done by either the salesmen or the Lead Excavator technician. Arrangements should be made in advance with the owner to ensure they will be available for walk through.
Signed punch list, permit and inspection paper go to Project Manager or Department Manager for final billing and collections.
